Instruction and Curriculum

Wayne-Westland Community Schools challenges students with an extensive curriculum aligned to the Michigan Department of Education's Curriculum Standards and Benchmarks.

K-5 Learning Standards

English Language Arts
The ultimate goal of the English Language Arts curriculum is to gain understanding and meaning of written language.

Math
The core curriculum for K-5 is Everyday Math, a hands-on, explorative curriculum that is designed to challenge all students.

Science
It is increasingly important for students to understand the world in which they live. The emphasis on experiments and hands-on activities to enhance learning is critical to basic knowledge about science.

Social Studies
The Wayne-Westland Elementary Social Science/Studies Curriculum provides students with the skills they need to be able to participate effectively as citizens of the U.S. and, of a global community.
