Staff Internet and Email Acceptable Use Notice

Access to the Internet, including e-mail, has been provided to staff for the benefit of the Wayne-Westland Community Schools. The use of these services must be consistent with and in support of the curriculum and Board of Education policies. Each staff member has the responsibility to maintain and enhance the District’s public image and to use the Internet, e-mail and computer system in a productive manner. Toward these ends, the following notice has been prepared for using the Internet, e-mail and computer system.

The computer system belongs to the District. Therefore, staff should treat it as any other District resource. It should not be used for personal purposes.

Staff members do not have an expectation of privacy in e-mail communications or Internet usage. The District reserves the right to review any material on user accounts. Monitoring of e-mail and Internet usage will take place. Even if e-mail is deleted from the screen, it is not deleted from the system.

E-mail or the Internet may not be used to defame others or to convey messages or images that violate the District policies, including, but not limited to, its policies prohibiting discrimination and harassment.

Security on any computer system is a high priority, especially when the system involves many users. If you feel you can identify a security problem, you must notify the network administrator. Do not demonstrate the problem to others.

Staff is responsible for following all copyright laws regarding the use, duplication, application, and distribution of intellectual property.

The District makes no warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, for the services provided. The District will not be responsible for any damages you suffer. This includes, but is not limited to, loss of data resulting from delays, non-deliveries, missed deliveries, or service interruptions. Use of any information obtained via the Internet or e-mail is at your own risk. The District specifically denies any responsibility for the accuracy or quality of information obtained through these services.

Staff may not solicit or distribute information not related to the District’s business. Misuse of the District’s computer system and/or these rules may result in disciplinary action, including discharge.
