About the Family Resource Center

The Family Resource Center links Wayne-Westland families with agencies, organizations, volunteer groups and schools to meet their social, emotional, physical and academic needs. The Family Resource Center is located inside of Adams Upper Elementary School.

Mission Statement

We partner with families, the community, and school district staff in order to positively impact the success of every Wayne-Westland student. Through a collaborative effort, we link families with agencies, organizations, volunteer groups, and schools to meet their social, emotional, physical and academic needs.

Amanda Dybus is the District Homeless Liaison, and if anyone has a question or a concern about a family who they think may be experiencing homelessness, please call her at 734-419-2709.

We provide referrals to many services throughout our community. We have a database of over 300 resources on file! Here are some of the referrals we can provide our families with:

Tutoring/Homework Help

Wayne Youth Services: After School Academic Assistance

Wayne Youth Assistance is offering a free after-school academic assistance program at Taft-Galloway Elementary and Hicks Elementary. Please Contact Wayne Youth Assistance to sign up at 734-721-7004.

Westland Youth Assistance Academic Enrichment Program

Every Wednesday from 3:00-5:00 pm at the Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center located at  32150 Dorsey, Westland, MI  48186. Please register your child by calling the Westland Youth Assistance office at 734-467-7904.

Salvation Army

After-school program which includes tutoring/homework assistance. For more information please contact 734-722-3660.

Westland Public Library

The Westland Public Library offers many different programs patrons can use on the computer in their library for homework and academic assistance or at home if you have a Westland Public Library Card. For more information, please contact the Westland Public Library at 734- 326-6123.

Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center

The Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center has a Reading Room Library that is open throughout the week. They have evening events with guest speakers. For hours and more information, please contact 734-334-0042. The Vitality Center is located at 32150 Dorsey, Westland, MI  48186.

The Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center also has a Learning Center which offers tutoring and coding for students. For more information and hours, please contact 734-595-0288.

SNAP-Ed Resources for Early SNAP Distribution on January 19th

Because no food assistance benefits will be issued until March or later, planning ahead will be important for all individuals and families receiving SNAP benefits.
