Intra-County School of Choice (Non Resident Families)

Wayne-Westland Community School District will be participating in Intra-County School of Choice for non-resident families for the 2020-2021 School year.

Wayne-Westland Community School District will be accepting applications from non-resident families for Intra-County Schools of Choice under Section 105 of the Michigan Department of Education for grades K-12. Applications, Section 105 Agreement and Affirmation of Prior Discipline will be available online starting
April 27, 2020.

Intra-County Schools of Choice Questions & Answers

Who can apply?
Students who reside in Wayne County and will be entering grades K-12 are eligible to apply.

Will the district provide transportation?
NO. Transportation to and from school is the sole responsibility of the parent/guardian.

What schools are accepting Intra-County Schools of Choice students?
All K-5 elementary schools are participating: Edison, Elliott, Graham, Hamilton, Hicks, Hoover, Roosevelt/McGrath, Schweitzer, Taft-Galloway, Walker-Winter and Wildwood.

Adams Middle, Franklin Middle and Stevenson Middle, 6th, 7th & 8th grades are participating.

John Glenn High School and Wayne Memorial High School, 9th-12th grades are participating.

Parent may indicate their top choice of school, but the district reserves the right to assign students to schools to best balance out classes.

How do I apply?
Applications are available online at http://wwcsd.net.

What is the application deadline?
All applications completed by the parent l must be received in person by, August 28, 2020.

How will I know if my child is accepted?
The Department of Instruction will review each application to see if it meets all requirements. Parents will then be notified by a mailed or emailed letter of their acceptance and the assigned school. Parents will then need to complete the registration process. Students must be enrolled and in attendance by September 3, 2020 or they lose their placement. 

If my child is accepted for Intra-County Schools of Choice, will they have to re-apply next year?
No. Students accepted under Intra-County Schools of Choice remain in the district as long as they abide by the Student Code of Conduct.

If I have more than one child, will they be placed at the same elementary school?
The district will make an effort to place children from the same family at the same school whenever possible.

What is Schools of Choice?

Wayne-Westland Community Schools will offer district residents a Schools of Choice program for the 2020-2021 year for students in kindergarten through grade twelve. The Schools of Choice program provides parents the opportunity to move their child from one school to another within the boundaries of the school district PROVIDED there is room available in the school. Transportation to and from the school of choice must be provided by the parent or legal guardian.
