We know that everyone is looking forward to Spring Break, but we also need to mark our calendars for Testing Tuesdays in April.

During the month of April, we will be taking important state tests on Tuesdays. We need you here, on time, and ready to give your 100% best! Our goal is to have 100% of our students here every Tuesday and to raise our scores by 10%!

Thank you, Franklin families, for your patience and adherence to our new visitor protocol. As a reminder:

A valid ID must be shown at the front door for entry to the building. There are no alternatives to this protocol. If you do not have a form of ID, you will not be permitted into the building.
It is important to maintain your student's emergency contacts, especially if your student needs to be picked up early. Please visit https://sisweb.resa.net/ParentPortal/ to make any necessary changes.
Students may be picked up early through 2:20pm. There are no early dismissals after 2:20pm.
Appointments will be necessary to speak to staff regarding concerns. Please call the school office at (734) 419-2400 to schedule an appointment.

Report cards will be going home Monday. Please review your child’s report card, sign the cover sheet, and have your student return the signed form to their 1st hour teacher.
Important: Signed report card cover sheets must be returned for students to be eligible to attend the Valentine’s Dance.

We continue to see concerns during morning drop-off. Families are reminded that it is imperative to follow our established arrival procedures. Do not pull into the lot where our special education buses unload. Despite cones being clearly placed, vehicles are still disregarding them and driving into or around the cones, creating unsafe conditions. Thank you for helping us keep all students safe.

Congratulations to all of our students who presented at National History Day. Your hard work and dedication truly shined!We also wish the best of luck to the students who will be representing Franklin in the upcoming District Spelling Bee. We are so proud of you!

Monday: School will be closed in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Tuesday: This will now be a half day, with dismissal at 11:00 a.m.
Students will attend 1st, 2nd, and 3rd hour (first-semester classes).
Wednesday: This will be the first day of the new semester. Student schedules will be available in student connect.

If you have questions regarding your child's schedule, please direct them to your child/'s counselor. Please note that student schedules will not be changed for non-essential reasons. Schedule adjustments will only be considered for academic or programmatic needs.

FMS NJHS Thanksgiving Food Drive

The Franklin Middle School NJHS is hosting a Thanksgiving Food Drive to help make the holiday special for seniors in our community!

Collection runs from November 3–19.

A food collection box will be located outside the main office. We’re collecting:

Canned corn & green beans
Turkey gravy & cranberry sauce
Frozen Cool Whip (please contact the office first so we can ensure freezer space)
Whole frozen turkeys (please contact the office first so we can ensure freezer space)

All donations will be delivered to SportsVenue in Garden City, where volunteers prepare and serve Thanksgiving dinners for seniors in Garden City and the surrounding areas.

Let’s come together as Hornets to make a difference this holiday season!

We are in full swing here at Franklin, and it’s been exciting to see so many great things happening in our classrooms each day! Parent-teacher conferences are just around the corner. Please mark your calendars for October 8th and 9th. We look forward to connecting with you then.

We also want to address an important safety concern. Running in the hallways continues to be a major issue, despite several PA reminders and conversations with individual students. Unfortunately, this past week we had students injured due to students sprinting, horseplay, and chasing in the halls. Moving forward, students who are caught running in the hallway will receive a one-day suspension. We take safety seriously and appreciate your support in reinforcing this expectation at home.

Hallway & Classroom Expectations Reminder
As we settle into the school year, please help us maintain a safe and focused learning environment by reminding students of the following:

No big headphones should be worn during the school day. If Over the ear headphones are brought to school they must remain in the locker.
No running or horseplay in the halls—walk calmly and respectfully at all times.
Backpacks belong in lockers-now that most students have received their lockers large bags and backpacks must be stored in the locker.

Happy June! Please click the link for this week's updates.

As a reminder, 8th grade students attending the cedar point trip Monday June 2nd must be dropped off at the school by 6:30am. We will have breakfast for them and then load the buses to head to cedar point. Please ensure your child has a ride home from Franklin. We will return from cedar point at 9pm.

6th and 7th grade students planning to attend the Lilo & Stitch movie field trip must turn in their permission slip and movie asap to ensure a spot on the trip. The trip is Friday June 6th at Emagine Canton. The cost is $20 and includes a movie ticket, popcorn and drink.

Franklin Community Garden Update!

Things are blooming in the Franklin Community Garden! This spring, we planted lettuce, beets, beans, and tomatoes. We’ve also added beautiful daylilies donated by Mr. Swim that will brighten up the space even more. And just in time for the end of the school year—our strawberries will be ready to pick! We’re proud of the work our students and staff have put into the garden. It’s a great example of how we grow and thrive together as a school community.

Teacher Appreciation Week Was As Fantastic As Our Teachers!

From May 5th to 9th we were able to celebrate our incredible team of teachers with a fun event or treat every day. Our highlights were our breakfast and nacho bar, but we also had chair massages, raffles, treat baskets, and an extended lunch. We are so thankful for our teachers, who give their all and more for our students every day.

Library Book Return Reminder

As we approach the end of the school year, we kindly ask for your support in ensuring that all library books are returned to the FMS Library.

Overdue notices were sent home with students on May 2. Please check with your child to see if they received a notice and help them locate and return any outstanding books.

All books are due by May 22nd. Any items not returned within the next few weeks will be marked as lost, and a fine will be added to the student's account to cover the replacement cost. You will receive a letter in the mail after the school year ends to notify you of the outstanding fine.

Returning books on time helps us keep our library collection full and ready for next year’s students. Payments for lost books can be made in the library- a receipt will be issued for all cash payments. Fines can also be made at this link. Please include your student's full name and the book title in the section titled Optional.

Donate to your Students' Teacher Breakfast!

Teacher Appreciation Week is this week and one of our teacher appreciation events is breakfast on Wednesday, May 7th. If you would like to show appreciation for your students' teachers, we are accepting breakfast item donations! You can bring your donation to Franklin's main office anytime between Monday and Wednesday morning.

Please note the following important information.

Tuesday, April 15, 6th and 7th grade students will not attend school in person. Instead, students will participate in an important survey from home.

All 6th and 7th-graders are expected to complete the student perception survey. Please click the link for the survey. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfUHnEdAw7IGw7RQpuYvNZg9J8os6IP5zvL0dCN4BSOeX1KtA/viewform?usp=sf_link
If your child cannot access a computer, they may use a phone to complete the survey.
PSAT 8 Testing will begin promptly at 7:50 AM. All 8th graders must arrive on time, well-rested, and ready to do their best.
All electronic devices must remain in the locker during testing. This includes cellphones and smart watches.
Friday, April 18th: There is no school for all students in observance of Good Friday.
