As we enter Week Four of the school year, I want to thank our students, families, and staff for the positive start we have had at Wayne-Westland Innovative Academy. Each week, we have shared important reminders through our weekly flyers, and this newsletter provides an opportunity to expand on those messages and keep our WWIA community informed, connected, and engaged.

This week, we continue to emphasize the importance of attendance and student engagement through the District’s Aim for 8 initiative. Every day a student is present is another opportunity to learn, build relationships, earn credits, and move closer to their goals. We are also continuing our school wide cell phone expectations, which are designed to minimize distractions and create a focused learning environment where students can make the most of their instructional time.

Arriving to school and to class on time
Remaining in assigned classrooms during instructional time
Continuing to demonstrate respectful and positive behavior toward peers and staff
Staying engaged in learning and completing assignments on time

The final quarter of the year is an important opportunity for students to finish strong academically and continue contributing positively to our school community.

This is the same day as Parent Teacher Conferences.

The start time for the Senior / Parent Meeting is 5:00 pm.

Quarter 3 is well underway, and we appreciate the continued effort and commitment from our students and families. Week 3 is an important time to re-focus on routines, expectations, and goals as we continue building momentum toward academic success.

Final Exams – This Week

Please be reminded that final exams are scheduled for Thursday and Friday of this week.

Thursday and Friday are both half days of school.
Student attendance is critical on both days.

Final exams are an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning, finish their courses strong, and earn academic credit. We encourage all students to come prepared, on time, and ready to do their best.

Wayne-Westland Community Schools is excited to share a new partnership with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services that brings a valuable free resource to families living in Inkster and Wayne. Through this program, residents can receive a no-cost lead inspection in their home. If any issues are found, the team will replace faucets or sinks as needed and work directly with families to address additional concerns-providing real support, not just notification. Quarter II is off to an amazing start! We’re excited to announce the relaunch of our Fun Friday/Study Hall schedule. Every other Friday, the school day will be restructured to include both a Study Hall period and a Fun Friday activity period.

Study Hall:
During Study Hall, students will receive targeted academic support and intervention in the areas where it’s most needed. This time will allow students to:

Complete or make up assignments
Retake examinations (where applicable)
Receive additional help and stay on top of coursework
