Greetings Wayne-Westland Families,
Today is Ground Hog Day which means spring is hopefully just around the corner even though our recent weather has proven that winter is not over yet! Since the colder temperatures will probably be with us for a bit longer, please remember to keep your children bundled up when they go outside. Many of our students walk to school, wait at a bus stop or go out to recess during the school day. It is important for their health and safety that they wear a coat, hat, gloves, and boots to keep them warm. If you need assistance with winter gear for your child, please contact the office staff at your child’s school.

Wayne-Westland Community Schools is hosting informational sessions to share resources with families of students with special needs. The session is open to the entire community. Please join us on April 17 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm at the Mary Browe Senior Center, 36745 Marquette, Westland, MI 48185. Bridget Green, Clinical Director at Nora Mental Health and Midwest Wellness will speak on menthal health support for parents and caregivers who support people with special needs. With eight weeks left in the school year, students continue to learn, grow, and thrive. Students and staff are also gearing up for the year's culmination with celebrations and cherished traditions. This week has been particularly eventful, with state testing and the educational opportunity presented by the rare Solar Eclipse.
With collaboration from other departments, our Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Department has spearheaded significant improvements across nearly every academic subject area. We have seen growth in our students. One crucial tool guiding these enhancements is the series of state and national tests that commenced last week. Each assessment measures the knowledge and skills our students learn in school.

The Engineering Society of Detroit’s Boys in Engineering Academy (BEA) program is a transformative space that empowers primarily boys of color, historically marginalized in STEM fields, to live their best lives. BEA is unique as it focuses on the whole person by integrating STEM learning with a student-centered, hands-on, and project-based approach. BEA scholars are provided access to powerful STEM learning experiences that challenge them to think deeply and critically. As STEM learners, they are empowered to use STEM as a tool for personal and social change.
