Message from Mrs. Sheppard - Dear Graham Families,

Happy Friday!

MSTEP testing is in full swing. We will continue next week as well. I am so proud of our students and the effort that they are giving! Thank you to our families that have been making sure the students are on time every morning. It makes a huge difference when students test with their class.

We extended our March Madness attendance competition into April. The students are really getting into it and on Friday afternoons I announce the winner for the week. It is so fun to hear the screams errupt from that grade level at the end of the day. Attendance at school each day is very important. If you are struggling to get your child to school each day, or they are giving you a hard time about coming to school, please reach out to me or our social worker Ms. Salazar so we can sit down with your child and help them. We need our students here every day!

Message from Mrs. Sheppard - Dear Graham Families,

Happy Friday and Opening Day!

Hopefully our Detroit Tigers will have a great season this year!!! They did great today so that's awesome!!

We will be starting our MSTEP testing for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders next week beginning on Tuesday. It is very important that students arrive to school ON TIME each day so that they can test with their class. Research shows that students who test with their class, perform much better than when they have to take the test at a later date. We also like to make sure that they have a good night sleep the night before. Monitoring phone use, social media, and tablet usage in the evening is important so that they can get a good nights sleep. I know our students are ready to ROCK that test this year!!

Message from Mrs. Sheppard - Dear Graham Families,

I hope everyone was able to enjoy their Spring Break! We are in our final stretch of the school year now. That seems crazy to say. On Monday, we are going to go back to lining up OUTSIDE again at our classroom doors. There will however be a few classes that are going to have to continue to line up in the gym. Those classes are: Held, Taylor, Williams, Sokolowski, Nordeen, Burroughs, and Kubus. We are going to be packing up our building to get ready for construction that will be happening all summer at Graham. We are going to try and keep things as normal as possible, but please be patient while we are going to make some adjustments to things in the next couple of months.

Happy Friday everyone!

Message from Mrs. Sheppard

Dear Graham Families,

We have been having a fun time with Reading Month! Next week on Wednesday, we are doing a Dress for the Academy Awards day! I can't wait to see everyone's fancy outfits. On Friday next week, we will have a PJ day so we can watch the movie that correlates with our grade level book that we are reading. Dress in your PJs or your favorite comfy clothes.

Spring Break will begin on March 25th-29th. School will resume on April 1st.

Message from Mrs. Sheppard - Dear Graham Families,

Happy Friday everyone!

Reading month has begun and we are doing lots of fun things in the building to celebrate. I put a section in this newsletter so you would be able to find the reading logs and the calendar so you are aware of what is going on.

Don't forget that on Sunday, we SPRING FORWARD one hour! Even though it takes a few days to adjust to losing an hour of sleep, that means longer days are coming and so is SPRINGTIME!!!! I love this time of year where we can be outside more often and later in the evening!!

Just a friendly reminder that we do not release students after 3:40 pm since we get out of school at 4:00. If you need to pick up your child early, please do so before 3:40 pm. The office gets very busy at the end of the day.

Message from Mrs. Sheppard - Dear Graham Families,

We have had a great week at Graham! Reading month has begun and we are so excited! Our theme is LIGHTS, CAMERA, READ!!! Your child should be bringing home notes about all of the activities that will be going on this month. Please check out the section in the newsletter for all of the materials. There have been lots of changes with recess due to the construction and the staff and students have been so flexible with all of the changes. It is so hard to make a change but we are up for the challenge!

Message from Mrs. Sheppard - Dear Graham Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mid-Winter Break! I am looking forward to seeing all of the staff and students back on Monday. Exciting News everyone! Construction has begun at Graham! You will notice that there is a fence up in the back of the school. This area will be fenced off so that they can start working on the new addition to our building which will be a brand new gymnasium, some new bathrooms and an office space. We are going to have to change our dismissal plans for the classes that are in the back of the building. Please refrain from walking in the back of the building. We are planning to dismiss those classrooms in a different way. I will be reaching out to those families to inform them of our new pick up process for the rest of the year. Please be patient as we work through the construction process.

Message from Mrs. Sheppard

Dear Graham Families,

Happy Friday!!

We have two really fun holidays coming up this week at Graham. Tuesday, February 13th is the 100th day of school! Our teachers plan lots of fun things to celebrate this milestone day at school. I always look forward to seeing all of the fun collection on 100 items that students bring in to share. We always get some really creative ones! We will also celebrate Valentine's Day this week on Wednesday. Our PTA is selling Candy Grams so please be sure those are filled out a returned to school by MONDAY!

This week in the Positivity Project we will talk about LOVE. Love means you value close relationships with others and being close to people. This is a PERFECT trait to talk about this week since we are celebrating Valentine's Day. Please read the parent letter to go along with this trait and see if you can find ways to work them into your daily conversations with your child.

Message from Mrs. Sheppard - Dear Graham Families,

Happy Friday!!

February is here and according to Punxatawney Phil, we will have an early spring! I hear he is only right 39% of the time so let's hope that is true. I could definitely use some sun!

Please remember that students should not be arriving to school before 8:45 am. There is no one outside to watch them before this time. We have also had several students being dropped off way to early for tutoring and other morning meetings. Tutoring in the morning does not begin until 8:00. Student council meetings usually start at 8:15 and Newspaper at 8:35.
