Morning Career Tech
The last bus for Career Tech leaves at 7:10am. If you have a student with morning Career Tech, please remind them to get on the bus as soon a possible.
This past week, student were given student ID’s. Students will be expected to have a student ID at all school functions. Students will be asked for ID to get into sporting events, getting on the bus, and admission to dances. Picture retake day is September 29th.
With the start of school, it is a good time to talk to students about strangers and how to manage situations they may encounter when they are walking in the community. Here is a link with some tips and advice for parents of teenagers. https://preventionactionalliance.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Know-To-Talk-Teen-Stranger-Danger.pdf
In the coming weeks, we will be practicing fire drills, tornado drills, and lock down drills. Please speak to your student about the importance of taking these drills serious. Our administrative team monitors these drills and makes minor adjustments based on our expectations and practices. It is important that everyone, staff and student, takes these seriously.
Football Game Traffic
After a football game, please have your student walk over to the circle drive off of Glenwood. This is the location parents should pick up students. The circle drive provides a safe place and smooth traffic flow. If is is raining, students can also wait under the overhang by the pool. We do not want cars driving by the football field where over a thousand people, players, and our band are walking out. Also, our away team buses leave from the field. Your support of this is appreciated in keep our students safe.

Scheduling for 18-19
Almost all of our students have made requests for courses for the 18-19 school year. Using Student Connect, your student can show you the courses they have requested for the 18-19 school year. When a student logs into Student Connect, they will see next year’s information. The courses requested for next year (18-19) are the only item that can be viewed in the 18-19 track.
With the recent tragic events, I wanted to let you know that we take student safety seriously. If you attended New Student Orientation, you have heard me say that we strive for safety, learning, and fun. These three things are in order of importance. Over my fourteen years at Wayne Memorial, we have continued to make adjustments to increase the safety for our students. We appreciate the support from our local police department and regularly communicate with them about challenges and concerns.
Safety in schools is a community effort, and I ask parents for support. Please continue to contact Wayne Memorial when something concerns you. Please continue to monitor your child’s social media activities. Please continue to support school rules and policies, as many of the rules are in place to help maintain a safe school. I also want to encourage parents to talk to your student about the recent events. I have attached a resource that will provide you some guidance in having this conversation.
On March 7th, we will be practicing a lockdown drill. This lock down drill has been planned since the summer time. I wanted to communicate this with parents so you would know that this is not a response to anything, but rather our continued efforts to be proactive.
I have attached the senior letter to this email. This letter is for seniors, but I ask that all parents review this letter. Senior year has several big events. Much of the information is very similar from year to year, and the letter will be helpful for all parents to get an understanding of senior year.
