Adams Winner - Roy Hall, Science Teacher
"I have been teaching for 30+ years and at several different schools. Having said that, Adams Middle School has become my FAVORITE place that I have taught at and I have taught at some very good schools and with some amazing teachers and staff. I met some of my best friends, including Raechel "Snaps" Kennedy-Trombley (my Teacher Bestie!), Doug Mac (My Retired Bestie!), Keri "Keke" Chene, Laura "Calley" Calleja, Rachelle "Truey" Truax, Tony Venturini - The Crewligans!, as well as Wayne Woodard, Sherri Wild, Terry Young, Kathleen O'Connor, Lynn D'Angelo, Tracey Dobry, Natalie Mehlberg, Kara Pajor, Amy Barnard, Steph Boytim, Pam Slone, Quangela "Q" Bailey, Angie Lentz, Stacy Brooks,Cynthia Comerzan, Antjuan Simmons, Shawn Mezigian, Katie Pruden, Dave Ringe, Chris Imperati, Tov Pauling, Taylor Davis, Cheryl Rujan, Chris King, Erin Eaton and Stacie Bukosky (Our Dynamic Duo!), Alisa Bridges, Jill McNichols, Muyiwa Cornish, and many more (I'm sure I missed someone special, and my apologies ahead of time). The staff here at Adams MS truly take care of one another, have each other's backs, support one another, and care about the students that we serve.
These incredible people, and "true" friends, are THE number one reason that I LOVE and continue to teach, have put off retirement, and plan / hope to teach another 5 - 10 years more. They are incredibly loyal, incredibly loving, incredibly kind, and have given me so many fond memories that I will not soon forget.
Another reason that I LOVE to teach at Adams are our students and student-athletes, as well as many of their parents. Many of our students are incredible little people, who work very hard are incredibly respectful, polite, kind, love their teachers, and are appreciative of all that we do for them. And, in return, they work very hard for us and make teaching at Adams a wonderful experience each and every day. This is not to say that there are not challenges, because there more certain are those, but if one was to focus just on our "good kids", those that love to come to school and learn, we are blessed with some incredible little people that we work with each and every day.
Thank you to all the wonderful people that I teach, and work with at Adams and the incredible friendships that have been made while here as well. I consider myself a very lucky teacher, and person.

Erica, what do you enjoy most about working for Wayne Westland? My favorite part about working in Wayne-Westland is the people! I love working with a wide range of students at Roosevelt-McGrath and helping them get active and smile or laugh daily. It is inspiring to see their improvement throughout the year(s). Mark Watson Thoughts: Erica is a shining star among our amazing staff.Erica teaches Adaptive PE in the McGrath wing of Roosevelt-McGrath. This includes teaching swimming and in our pool and facilitating unified gym. Erica’s positivity is contagious. She helps any student she can and she also helps any staff member who needs it. Erica is critical in making sure that everyone has coverage and support at McGrath. She is truly the definition of above and beyond. Erica is a natural leader and always puts students' best interests first. Erica makes everyone better.

Jennifer, what do you enjoy most about working for Wayne Westland? What I love about teaching in Wayne-Westland is getting to work alongside so many wonderful colleagues and of course the amazing students everyday!
Jana Babyak Thoughts: Jen Ferris has been an incredible asset to Wildwood, bringing dedication, compassion, and leadership to her role as our Life Skills teacher. As a valued member of our Leadership team, Jen goes above and beyond to support both students and staff. Most recently, she poured her heart into organizing our Reading Month activities, working tirelessly to ensure that every student felt included and celebrated. Her ability to foster connection, build community, and create meaningful experiences makes a lasting impact on our school. We’re so grateful for the warmth, creativity, and positivity she brings to the building each day.

Karen, what do you enjoy most about working for Wayne Westland? I enjoy working in Wayne-Westland because I truly feel like I make an impact. Equity is a passion of mine, and I believe all students deserve equitable learning experiences. In Wayne-Westland, I’m surrounded by educators who are deeply dedicated—not just to student learning, but to supporting students as whole individuals. It’s a community of educators that truly puts kids first.
Wayne-Westland has trusted me to bring quality STEM across the district. So many districts focus strictly on reading and math—and we do as well—but we also value hands-on learning and are expanding our commitment to 3P (problem, project, and place-based learning). This approach is helping create a culture of students who will grow up more self-reliant, with stronger 21st-century skills, and more prepared for their future careers, no matter what pathway they choose.
The more Wayne-Westland focuses on 3P learning, the more we give students opportunities to apply their ELA and math skills in meaningful ways—while also actively exploring science and social studies. Instead of just reading about others doing the work, our students are the ones participating, problem-solving, and making real-world connections.
I love making a positive impact on my community, and I feel that Wayne-Westland allows me to do this.
Scott Kelly Thoughts: Karen consistently inspires her students through hands-on STEM activities that spark curiosity and creativity. Her dedication to making science and technology accessible has helped students build confidence, develop critical thinking skills, and discover new passions. By fostering an inclusive and supportive environment, she empowers every student to believe in their potential and pursue their goals. She always brings a great positive attitude that inspires everybody.

Chris Swanson Thoughts: Mike is an amazingly dedicated staff member. He battles through health issues to attend school and support students and staff. Mike has established rapport with every student in the building and takes the time to learn about their interests, ambitions, and goals. He has witty banter with students and staff and is always willing to go the extra mile to help problem solve an issue, lend a helping hand, or comfort a student who is upset.
Geno Montayne: Director of Maintenance and Operations
Geno, what do you enjoy about working for Wayne-Westland? "Working for Wayne-Westland feels like I'm contributing to something bigger than myself, helping future generations succeed. This sense of purpose makes my work more fulfilling. Being surrounded by like-minded individuals that are working toward the same goal makes it a positive and motivating atmosphere that has helped me grow professionally and personally."
