Chaperone and Volunteer Background (ICHAT) request for 2023-2024

In an effort to ensure the safety and security of its students, Wayne-Westland Community Schools is continuing with our safety procedure for field trip chaperones, and volunteers (Literary Corp, Watch Dogs, Coaches, etc.).

It is necessary for all individuals who will be chaperoning field trips or volunteering in a classroom to provide information for a criminal conviction/background check. All volunteers must complete the Wayne-Westland Community Schools Criminal History Consent Form for School Volunteer Application.  This form must be completely filled out and signed by the volunteer, the administrator must sign this form, and a clear copy of the driver's license must be attached. If you have more than one child in the district, a single ICHAT request is sufficient; please list all of the schools where you will be chaperoning / volunteering at the top of the volunteer application.  The form will be sent to the Human Resources and Operations office and checked through the ICHAT (Internet Criminal History Access Tool) database.

When the background check is complete, a list of approved chaperones and volunteers will be shared with our school secretaries / principals / assistant principals on a "need to know" basis. The 2023-2024 ICHATS will be kept on file for the current school year.

Parents may elect not to be screened. Please note that if you are not screened you will not be able to chaperone or drive any children other than your own on field trips.

Depending on the volume of ICHAT requests, it may take up to 10 days to screen the requests.

If you have any questions, please contact Melissa Kukulka at the Human Resource and Operations office.

Thank you for your continued support of our children here at Wayne-Westland Community Schools.
