About Elementary Athletics & Contact Information
Entirely grant-funded and led by passionate educators, the Elementary Athletics program was created to bridge recreation gaps in our community and provide accessible athletic opportunities for elementary students. Beyond sports, it fosters social and emotional growth through teamwork, conflict resolution, and perseverance—while also uniting families to support and celebrate their children’s development.
Launched in 2021, our elementary athletic program has since grown to offer a variety of sports for younger students, including NFL flag football, cheer, boys basketball, and girls basketball for 4th and 5th graders. In spring 2025, we piloted soccer for 2nd and 3rd graders and expanded NFL Flag Football to those grades in fall 2025.

Athletics Opportunities
The Wayne-Westland community has become a RECREATION DESERT. With the closure of the Westland YMCA in 2006, the Westland Recreation Center in 2012 and the Wayne Community Center in 2015, families have been left without affordable recreational opportunities. The absence of public programs has created a significant gap, forcing many to rely on costly club sports that can far out exceed $175 per player, per season, pricing out a large portion of our community.
In 2021, we partnered with RCX Sports to launch NFL Flag Football, creating an exclusive league within Wayne-Westland Community Schools. Since then, we have continued to partner with community athletic providers to expand our Elementary Athletic League, offering more sports and opportunities for students across the district.
