September GEM Award Winner - Kathleen O'Connor

Kathleen O’Connor, Adams Middle School

My classroom is where I am responsible for teaching the science skills and knowledge my students need to function in tomorrow's world.  While they are learning science, they become creative and critical thinkers. My students will be the makers, innovators, and leaders of tomorrow. I have the great privilege of watching their abilities develop as they grow and learn.

Teaching is a great calling, I can't imagine doing anything else!

Adams Middle School Principal Erin Eaton statement about Kathleen O’Connor

Kathleen goes above and beyond every day in her science classroom. She works hard preparing and providing lab experiences and engaging activities for her students that are applicable to real world experiences. She serves as the science department head and leads science PLC's, serves as a school improvement team member, and is always looking for ways to better herself and instruction. This year, Kathleen is piloting a new STEM elective that she initiated and planned. We are hoping and looking to expand this opportunity to more students and schools in the future. Adams is lucky to have Kathleen!
