Hello Hamilton Families!
I can't believe that we are already at the end of January! We are just moving right along through the year. Our students are growing so much and gaining strength in so many areas! We have all just completed our Winter NWEA tests and parent reports will be sent home at the end of the week. If you have any questions please reach out to your child’s teacher for guidance. Please remember this is only one snapshot of your child’s academic progress. Look at areas to celebrate and also for areas that need additional support. Here are some ways you can be a part of the home-school team and support your child at home.

I hope you have now adjusted to Daylight saving time and are ready to welcome spring this week. Hopefully we can welcome warmer weather too! As we enter into the last third of the school year we need to make a strong finish to the year. As we approach the spring break this week please keep in mind we still have much work to do. We still need you to be our partner in your child's education. We know the lighter it is near bedtime makes it difficult to get kids to bed and stay on schedule, however staying on schedule really benefits your child. Turning screens off and reading a book can be a great way to calm down and get ready for a full night of sleep.
Happy Daylight saving time! I hope everyone adjusts easily to the time change and hopefully the time change brings some spring-like weather too!
Please keep in mind that our students go outside when the weather is 20 degrees or more and need to be dressed for the weather. During arrival students are to walk around to their grade level door so they need to be dressed to walk outside for a few minutes. It is important that students enter their assigned door so we know where each student is. If you have multiple students you can have them all go in the youngest child’s door after you set that up with me.
I hope everyone stayed warm and safe during this last snow storm. It sure was a wild storm with that huge volume of snow, thunder snow and lightning, it was pretty amazing! I hope you all have power and didn’t get stuck again without power.
This time of year we often have unpredictable weather that can cause additional hardship on families. If you are in need of support please reach out to our Family Resource center as they have a number of resources to provide help. We also always have our food pantry open to any of our Hamilton families. You can pick up food on Mondays and Fridays from 9-11 or we can send smaller amounts home with your child. Call the office or message me on Dojo with questions. Wayne-Westland Community Schools has a Family Resource Center (FRC), which provides services to any student/family enrolled in our District, free of cost. Some of the services they provide are: basic need assistance, access to over 700 local resources, Laundry Assistance Program and material items for those unable to afford them (emergency toiletries, socks/underwear, hats/gloves/scarves, etc.) They are also able to supply school supplies and backpacks year round for any WWCS student. Please contact our Family Resource Center at: 734-419-2709 or FRC@wwcsd.net. Our FRC also has a Digital Request for Services Form, which can be used to request assistance by filling out a simple form. Please contact the Family Resource Center directly with any additional questions regarding their services.
I hope you enjoyed the week off and are rested and ready for getting back into the school routine. We are looking forward to seeing all of our kiddos tomorrow! We have a busy month ahead with March being reading month and our College and Career Readiness March Madness week then followed by our spring break. We need to stay focused and on task to make this a great month. You can stay up to date with our reading month activities calendar that is posted on Dojo and will come home in print on Monday. You can also help your child to do their best by getting them a full night of rest and to school on time each day. I am hoping to see yet another increase in the number of students who had perfect attendance for February. In January we had 118 students with perfect attendance, hopefully we have even more for February!
What a nice weekend we have had! I hope everyone took the chance to put away the screens and enjoy some time outside! With all the access to phones, tablets, T.V. 's we still need to remember that our kids need the opportunity to play outside and be active at least 60 minutes a day. There are so many social skills learned during play time that help kids with problem solving, self regulation and physical health.
