Dear Wayne-Westland School Community,

Weekly Letter to Students, Parents & Staff

This week, Wayne-Westland Community Schools staff supported each other and the students as we processed another senseless tragedy on the campus of our educational partner, Michigan State University. We then came together again after experiencing the loss of one of our students in a tragic accident. This loss has raised many emotions, concerns, and questions for our district.

Wayne-Westland Community Schools is a place of resilience and strength. We will take care of our students and staff. The district crisis intervention team and school counselors are always available. Please reach out to the school building should you need support.

As we begin the mid-winter recess, we want to express gratitude. We are thankful for your continued dedication and commitment to our students. We want to thank our staff, parents, and families for putting our students’ academic and social-emotional learning needs at the forefront.

To our staff, we encourage you to make good use of this well-deserved break. It is important to recharge, relax, and take time away from work. Over the recess, think about what you can do to ensure work/life balance, then be intentional about making that happen.

To our students, please know that your hard work, accomplishments, and resilience are noticed. Always remember that we believe in your ability to succeed, care for your well-being, and support your continued learning inside and outside the classroom. We look forward to all that you will accomplish before the end of the school year.

To our parents and families, we are so grateful and proud of how we have worked together as a community to support your child’s learning. We hope you encourage your child to stay engaged during recess by diving into a good book, spending time outdoors, or enjoying time with loved ones.

As a reminder, Mid-Winter Recess is from Monday, February 20, 2023, through Friday, February 24, 2023. Classes will be back in session on Monday, February 27, 2023.

This link lists our student and family resources for assistance during mid-winter recess. We have also partnered with Care Solace to support the well-being of our community. They will connect individuals to mental and substance abuse treatment providers by connecting those in need to qualified providers, verifying insurance and making appointments for care quickly. Care Solace can be reached at 888-515-0595 or caresolace.com/wwcsd.

Let’s keep our arms wrapped around our family, friends, colleagues, and the entire school community. We are one family, and we are stronger together. We appreciate your support and partnership. We hope you enjoy the mid-winter recess.

Sincerely

John Dignan, Ed.D.
