Dear Wayne-Westland Community Schools Families,

Weekly Letter to Students, Parents & Staff

With only a few days of school left and the hot sun in full force, everyone has summer fever. End-of-the-year celebrations and events have made for a festive time. We have been saying goodbye to a full and memorable year while saying hello to what’s to come next. That said, we're grateful for an incredible year

This week is our last week of school, and our high school students have half days on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, while our elementary and middle school students have half days on Thursday and Friday. Students will take their exams on half-days at the high school level. Buildings have sent their exam schedules in their newsletters. It will be challenging not to start summer early, but I hope all scholars will take time to study for their exams.

High School Exam Schedule:

  • Wednesday, June 7, 2023
    • 1st and 2nd hour exams
  • Thursday, June 8, 2023
    • 3rd and 4th hour exams
  • Friday, June 9, 2023
    • 5th and 6th hour exams

Due to the harsh conditions and power outages this winter, a few of our schools exceeded the maximum allotment of snow days and must add one school day to the 2022-23 school year. The make-up day is Monday, June 12, 2023, for the following schools:

  • Taft-Galloway Elementary School
  • Walker-Winter Elementary School
  • Wayne-Westland Innovative Academy

Edison Elementary School also exceeded the maximum allotment of snow days and must add two school days to the 2022-23 school year. The make-up days are Monday, June 12, 2023, and Tuesday, June 13, 2023.

Students must virtually check in with their classroom teacher. Teachers will send instructions on how to check in on that day. Your child’s attendance on the make-up day is critical to their education.

Thank you for your continued support this year. Have a wonderful summer.

Sincerely,

John Dignan, Ed.D.
Superintendent
