Dear Wayne-Westland Families,

Wayne-Westland Superintendent Update

I want to assure all of you that, despite what is happening in Lansing and Washington, D.C., regarding both budgets. As you likely know, the state Legislature passed a Continuation Budget that will keep the state government open through October 8, 2025. Meanwhile, in Washington, D.C., lawmakers failed to reach a budget deal, and a federal shutdown is now in effect. While this means our funding remains in question, the Board of Education and district leaders thoughtfully allocated resources so there would be no disruption for our students.

All district programs and services will continue without interruption, including:

● The Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP)

● Free breakfast and lunch for all students

● Student support services (social work, after school programs, health clinics, athletics)

Our priority remains serving our students and families. Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to provide every student with the safe, supportive, and enriching education they deserve.

Sincerely,

Dr. Catherine Cost
Interim Superintendent
Wayne-Westland Community Schools
