Dear Wayne-Westland Students, Staff and Families,

As you know, the safety of our students and staff is a top priority in Wayne-Westland Community Schools. This week the district recognized Safe Schools Week. You may have noticed social media posts that shared tips, resources and information on district protocols during an emergency. As community members, we all have a role to play in school and student safety.
A school crisis or emergency can take several different forms, including
- A weather emergency such as a tornado
- An environmental event like a chemical spill
- A dangerous or criminal event in the immediate area
- Something at the school, such as an intruder.
The nature of the crisis will determine the protocols that will be put in place to protect students and staff. We have district and building crisis teams that work closely with local law enforcement to create and implement responses for emergencies.
If a crisis were to occur at your child's school, you would receive information from the district via phone (734-419-2000), email and text (if you have a cell phone listed in ParentConnect).
Here are a few reminders about emergencies.
- We secure the safety of our students and staff before sending out a communication to families. During an emergency, we first focus on our students' security.
- Ensure your contact information is updated in your ParentConnect if we need to reach you.
As we wrap up Safe Schools Week, we want to share this Emergency Information Guide for Families. It explains the district's safety terms and procedures. Thank you for your support and all you do to make our community and schools great!
