Dear Wayne-Westland Families,

Weekly Letter to Students, Parents and Staff

With eight weeks left in the school year, students continue to learn, grow, and thrive. Students and staff are also gearing up for the year's culmination with celebrations and cherished traditions. This week has been particularly eventful, with state testing and the educational opportunity presented by the rare Solar Eclipse.

With collaboration from other departments, our Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Department has spearheaded significant improvements across nearly every academic subject area. We have seen growth in our students. One crucial tool guiding these enhancements is the series of state and national tests that commenced last week. Each assessment measures the knowledge and skills our students learn in school.

Why do these assessments matter?

  • Student Self-Reflection: Assessments allow students to recognize their achievements and pinpoint areas where they might need additional support.
  • Family Insights: Assessment results provide valuable insights into a child’s academic performance.
  • Program Evaluation: For our Wayne-Westland Community School team, these assessments serve as a critical evaluation of our programs and services. They guide us in allocating resources effectively to meet our high expectations for student success.

We would like to thank Mr. Joe Orban, Director of Assessment and Data Analysis, who spearheads our efforts around assessments.

College and Career Readiness:

College and Career readiness is a lifelong process guided by the principles of awareness, exploration, and preparation. The process begins in elementary school with self-awareness and exploration of careers. In middle school, students start making decisions about their potential career options. During high school, students continue to gain self-awareness, evaluate options, make further decisions, and act in preparation and pursuit of their career and life goals.  Our staff works closely with families to help students pursue their passions and excel academically and athletically in the arts, career, and technical areas.

Upcoming Opportunity:

Registration is still open for the Soaring Stripes 3 v 3 Basketball Tournament for 4-12 grade students.

Thank you again for your partnership and support. Have a wonderful week.

Sincerely,

John Dignan, Ed.D.
Superintendent
